The new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm, sees the return of a legend, a car that has been developed with knowledge from Formula 1 and with the help of Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi. It is the ultimate in performance, engineering and driving pleasure from Alfa Romeo.
Recently, the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and the ultimate track day edition GTAm have been shown and tested for the press for the first time on the Balocco track in Italy. It was also here that its predecessor – the legendary Giulia Sprint GTA from 1965 – was tested and developed. The new Giulia GTA was presented a year ago on the occasion of the brand’s 110th birthday, it only comes in 500 copies, and it is a new highlight for Alfa Romeo’s special ability to combine style, mechanics and incredible driving pleasure. GTA is a supercar for everyday use, while GTAm is intended for track, but also approved for ordinary road.
More hp, fewer kg
Giulia GTA is developed on the basis of Giulia Quadrifoglio, but the weight is reduced using carbon fiber and composite. Among other things. The drive axle, roof, radiator hood, diffuser, front wheel arches, inserts on the rear wheel arches and seats in the GTAm are made of carbon fiber, while a large number of smaller parts are made of composite. It has ceramic brakes and the exhaust is a well-sounding Akrapovič exhaust made of titanium. This means that the Giulia GTA weighs 100 kg less than the Quadrifoglio.
At the same time, the Giulia GTA has gained more power than the Quadrifoglio with the carefully upgraded version of the Alfa Romeo’s 2.9-liter V6 engine with two turbos delivering a breathtaking 540 hp. Together, it gives the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA class the best ratio between weight and power, and it provides 187 hp / l. Using Launch Control, the time from 0-100 is just 3.6 seconds.
Test driven by F1 drivers
The aerodynamics have been improved with the help of Sauber Engineering – which has more than 50 years of experience in motorsport, of which 27 from Formula 1 – and have been developed with improved handling and downforce in mind and with technology and know-how directly from motorsport’s top shelf. Sauber Engineering has also designed a number of other parts, including the carbon fiber spoilers and the special rear wing (also in carbon fiber), which comes with four different settings and which sits on the GTAm.
The Giulia GTA also comes with 20 ” center lock rims, used for the first time in recent times on a sedan, and the front air intakes have grown. Taken together, this means that GTAm can generate twice as much downforce as GTA, which in itself generates twice as much downforce as Giulia Quadrifoglio. A great achievement, which also Alfa Romeo’s two F1 drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi have contributed with test drives and instructions for the development of especially the car’s aerodynamics and driving characteristics.
The many forces require good control and handling, and it is also improved with tires that are 25 mm wider at the front and 50 mm wider at the rear compared to the Giulia Quadrifoglio in addition to new springs. Together with the active undercarriage and steering characteristics, it allows for a higher speed in turns as well as better stability in general.
Inside, the panels, instrument panel and partly the seats are upholstered with Alcantara, which in GTAm has also been used at the rear, where the rear seat has been removed and replaced with panels with dedicated space for helmets and a fire extinguisher. GTAm is created to run on track, and therefore there are no panels on the doors. It also has straps to open the doors instead of door handles, six-point seatbelts and roll bars.
With the Giulia GTA, Alfa Romeo also offers a very high degree of customization to the customer’s wishes. The exterior model can be decorated with a whole range of special and exclusive options – e.g. the front is available with a separate color as the original Giulia GTA from 1965. In addition, the radiator hood is available with e.g. the cross or the Biscion from the Alfa Romeo logo or the colors of the Italian flag, and the sides of the car can be embossed with stripes and numbers according to the customer’s wishes.
GTA comes in the colors Etna Red, Trophy White and Montreal Green, which together are a tribute to the Italian flag. The brake calipers are available in five different colors, and in the cabin seams, roll bars and braces are available in different colors. The various options make it possible to create your very own and unique Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA.
The GTA is the kind of car that Alfa Romeo is synonymous with and the return of the legend is truly awesome.
