The champion Fabio Barone, will try to cover in less than 49 hours the distance of over 4,400 Km between Rome and the North Cape to beat the virtual car of the Giant of Mountain View.
Engines are warming up for the Ferrari Guiness World Record 2021: the challenge of the pilot Fabio Barone to Google Maps, whose goal is to cover in the shortest possible time the distance of over 4,400 Km between Rome and the North Cape. The event, which will take place next July 16, will be sponsored by the Municipality of Rome and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will be incollaboration with the Italian Timekeepers Federation.
Born in 1972, Barone, who already holds three world speed records driving a Ferrari and will rely on a Team of more than thirty professionals, comments the ambitious challenge in this way: “ The idea came to us inspired by a historic Fiat magazine from way back in 1953, which told the story of four daring young men who left Rome in a Balilla car and got to the North Cape, getting back to the Italiancapital after a 45-day journey. For the time, this was a real feat. Hence the idea for an unprecedented feat: to be able to cover the same distance that the virtual car of Google Maps claims to cover in 49 hours in a shorter period of time, all while maintaining the regular speed limits in each country”. Finally, he adds, “Let’s wink at Germany’s famous highways, where only recommended speeds exist.”
An unprecedented challenge
Fabio Barone and his co-driver Alessandro Tedino will try to beat Google Maps in a spectacular journey aboard a Maranello F8 Tribute red car, during which technology and social networks will play a leading role. At the beginning of August, the Italian crew will leave from the evocative Via Dei Fori Imperiali, under the curious eyes of Julius Caesar, for a journey of over 4,400 km to be covered in less than the time declared by the navigator of California, which means in less than 49 hours.
A live event
The entire event will be broadcast live by on board cameras on thesocial platforms of the PASSIONE ROSSA, under the monitoring of the Italian Federation of Timekeepers and ALLEMANO stopwatches.
“The development of the project took us almost a year. In particular, the F8 has been entirely prepared by CAPRISTO, world leader in the production of specific carbon parts, and taken care of in detail by MAFRA technicians”, continues the driver, smiling. “We are working hard on the details, trying to lighten the car and not only… thanks to the collaboration with ABTECH LAB we will have at our disposal a customized model of carbon fiber shoes tailored to our specific needs,” concludes the Roman driver, already holder of three world records.
At the Finish Line the bubbles of the authentic Champagne of Aube
Alberto Colella, the Italian ambassador in Norway, will be present at the Finish Line, representing our country. And if all goes well, the pilot will uncork a bottle of Champagne Brut Grande Réserve in Magnum format of Comte De Montaigne, Maison of the authentic Champagne of the Aube. Finally, the Trophy will be an art object, created by the “artist of light” Carlo Baldessari.

Starting in 2015 with the Transfăgărășan, the national road in Romania that winds through northern Transylvania to the slopes of Dracula’s castle, the following year he raised the bar and climbed the Tianmen Mountain Road, a real concrete dragon that with its 99 curves passes from 200 to 1300 meters in height, ranking rightfully among the most dangerous routes on the globe.
Finally, in 2018, the new speed record among the spectacular Canyons of the Dades Valley, in Morocco, reconfirms Fabio as the absolute recordman.
