Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Europe – Forty-two Ferraris for the inaugural round at Monza
The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza will host the first round of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli over the weekend, the continental series which this year has its twenty-ninth edition. Forty-two 488 Challenge Ages will compete for the rankings of the Pirelli Trophy and the Shell Cup, with an interesting mix of new faces and welcome returns.
Pirelli Trophy . The challenge in the premier class will involve some of the protagonists of the Pirelli Am 2020 Trophy, promoted to the category. Frederik Paulsen, Formula Racing driver reigning champion, will meet Michelle Gatting (Scuderia Niki – Iron Lynx), already winner of round 6 at Misano last year, John Wartique (Francorchamps Motors Luxembourg – D2P), winner in Spa- Francorchamps, and rookie Luka Nurmi. The Finn from Formula Racing, at 16, will be the youngest driver in the history of the Ferrari Challenge.
Trofeo Pirelli Am . With sixteen cars entered, this category is the busiest in the series. Many drivers are starting with legitimate title ambitions, starting with Matúš Výboh (Scuderia Praha) and Roger Grouwels (Kroymans – Race Art), last year’s Coppa Shell champion. There will be rookies who will face the Lombard circuit for the first time at the wheel of a 488 Challenge Evo. Arno Dahlmeyer (Scuderia Niki – Iron Lynx), Hugo Delacour (Scuderia Monte-Carlo), Sergio Paulet (Santogal Madrid – MST Team), Jorge Daniel Pinto (Francorchamps Motors Luxembourg – D2P) and Omar Jackson (HR Owen – FF Corse) are the new faces who will challenge, among others, the returning Ange Barde (SF Côte d’Azur Cannes).
Shell Cup . Great expectations for one of the classes that historically guarantees great entertainment and emotions, the Shell Cup. After Grouwels’ promotion to the Pirelli Am Trophy, eyes on Ernst Kirchmayr (Baron Motorsport). The Austrian driver will cross paths with the 2020 Shell Am Cup champion, “Alex Fox” (SF Grand Est Mulhouse) and with veterans of the series such as James Weiland (Rossocorsa), Fons Scheltema (Kessel Racing) and Christian Kinch (Formula Racing) . Debut in the series also for Josef Schumacher (Eberlein Automobile).
Shell Cup Am . Thirteen protagonists are expected among the gentlemen who will compete along the very fast 5,793 meters of Monza with debuts, confirmations and returns. The first on board the 488 Challenge Evo will be Martinus Richter (Mertel Italo Cars Nürnberg), Joakim Olander (Scuderia Autoropa) and Germana Tognella (Rossocorsa), while Tommy Lindroth (Baron Motorsport) will return to the series after a year of absence. Waiting for them will be, among others, experienced drivers such as Laurent De Meeus (HR Owen – FF Corse), Willem Van Der Vorm (Scuderia Monte-Carlo), Michael Simoncic (Baron Motorsport) and Giuseppe Ramelli (Rossocorsa – Pellin Racing).
Program and direct. The first round of the season, which will take place behind closed doors, provides a compact formula that concentrates activities over three days. Test sessions will be held on Friday, while on Saturday, after qualifying, the action will kick off with the first race of the Shell Cup, starting at 3:30 pm and of the Trofeo Pirelli, with the traffic lights going off at 4:45 pm. . On Sunday a similar program with official practice to determine the starting grid for Race 2. The Coppa Shell will start at 14:00, while the 30 minutes of the Pirelli Trophy will begin at 15:15.
