1949 hours, 7 European countries and about 3,700 km. The Abarth 695 70th Anniversary, protagonist of the tour after the interruption due to the European lockdown, returns to “roar” .
Monday 6th July marked the “Tour of Europe in 1949 hours”, the exciting European tour aboard the Abarth 695 70th Anniversary, starts again from Turin. It tackles a stage route of approximately 3,700 km, from Holland to Portugal. Thus the powerful engine of the limited edition is reignited, born to celebrate the 70th birthday of the Scorpion, which in recent months has had a prolonged pit stop linked to the lockdown but which is now ready to return to the roads of the “Tour of Europe in 1949 hours ”to celebrate the story of the Scorpion, together with the love for the challenge and the continuous search for performance.
Luca Napolitano, Head of EMEA Fiat & Abarth Brands, declares: “The restart of our European journey is also a positive message of return to normal, sharing emotions and passions, together with the almost 130,000 fans of the Abarth community and more than 80 clubs that will contribute to testify and support the tour. And the enthusiasm for our brand, and in particular for the Abarth 695 70th Anniversary special series, is also confirmed by its commercial success: in fact, more than half of the 1,949 copies of the limited edition have already been sold ».
Started in late February from the Dutch town of Lijnden, 10 km from Amsterdam, the adrenaline-fueled Abarth 695 70th Anniversary first reached Belgium and then continued to Germany. Here we had to stop, for health and government provisions, to the point that the special series returned to Turin, the city that hosted the first Abarth headquarters and which is still today the headquarters of the Casa dello Scorpione and of the Heritage HUB where some of the most important cars produced by Abarth in its history are kept.
It is precisely from the Piedmontese capital that the Abarth 695 70th Anniversary engine starts again, with a powerful and aggressive “roar” enhanced by the “Record Monza Active” exhaust system, whose peculiarity lies precisely in the active valve – controlled by the Sport button on the bridge – which allows the pilot to intervene on the sound and choose between a “gentleman driver” sound or a darker and more gritty rumble, traditionally Abarth.
After Turin, the special series will head to the French Riviera, France, then reach Spain, touching Barcelona and Madrid, and finally conclude the venture in the fascinating Portuguese city of Lisbon. Altogether the tour “Tour of Europe in 1949 hours” will last 1,949 hours – a clear tribute to the year of birth of the brand and the number of units of the Abarth 695 70th Anniversary – which correspond to just over 80 days, just like the adventurous journey narrated by Jules Verne in the novel Le Tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours.
