Scumacher Wins In Hungary – For The First time In 15 Years the Schumacher name wins in Hungary!

Formula 2 – Mick Schumacher takes first win

Mick Schumacher led all 28 laps to the chequered flag to join the club of FIA Formula 2 winners. He took the maiden win at the Hungaroring at the eighth round of the season, in front of a crowd of 110,000 spectators.

Joy. “It’s great, really great to have achieved my first win in Formula 2,” commented Mick. “All I can say is I’m really happy, especially after the incidents of bad luck I’ve had since the start of the season. It’s never easy starting from pole and I did my best to make sure I was leading into the first corner. Everything went well and then the aim was to control those behind me, trying to maintain a big enough gap to keep out of DRS range. At the same time, I knew I shouldn’t stress the tyres too much, so that they didn’t go off towards the end and that turned out to be very important because, in the final laps, Matsushita who was behind me, got pretty close. I pushed as hard as I could trying to maintain a small margin and finally I took the chequered flag.”

Summer break. In Race-1, Schumacher finished eighth, which he was not that happy about after the strong fourth place he had secured in qualifying. “Tyre wear was significant,” he said. “Maybe I underestimated that a bit, but the best thing about finishing eighth is it ensured I started Race-2 from pole.” Thanks to points scored here, Schumacher is now on 45 points in the championship. “Today’s result is a great boost before the next round at Spa-Francorchamps,” said Mick. “It’s a track I’ve always liked and I’ve always felt comfortable on it. I’m looking forward to the summer break, but I can’t wait to be back in the car.”
