This weekend saw my second entry into the Teeside IKR Sprint. We went up on Friday night to setup, complete with our new enZari gazebo. Also armed with a few enZari wristbands and keyrings.
The aim as always, is to have Saturday practice to tidy up my lines for the race on Sunday. Providing conditions are similar of course. The rain was torrential. In fact it was so wet, only me and one other cadet went out for the first session. I was absolutely drowned. It was like driving on a lake, fun but not really very useful, considering the forcast for Sunday was now dry. It was a good job I had my spare suit.
When raceday came on Sunday, the track had completely dried out but there was no rubber down on the track so quick times in qualifying would be tough to come by. I ended up qualifying 9th from 20 drivers, then worked my way up through three eventful heats. In the sprint series you get points for each of the heats, but also your positions affect where you start the final where the points awarding are different. I had two good heats where I gained places finishing 6th in both But one of the heats I was pushed off the track by another driver, who got a contact warning. He also apologised later, which was good of him. I finished eleventh.
I ended up starting the final in 7th position aiming for a top 5 finish. But then on the first corner in the final race, disaster…
