As any real petrolhead will no doubt know, Italian exotic auto manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini produced an off road vehicle, known as the LM002 from 1986 – 1993. The Lamborghini LM002 was supposed to be a luxury off-roader but it was seen by many within the automotive universe as a “Lamborghini truck”, as a result only 328 examples of the LM002 were produced and once production of the LM002 ended, Lamborghini decided to focus solely on designing, developing and producing bonkers supercars up until a few years ago. Once again, Automobili Lamborghini were bitten by the off-road bug and the world famous supercar manufacturer took the world by total surprise when they announced that they would produce a high performance SUV, which is something we should have seen coming.
First unveiled in concept form at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2012 and shown at Pebble Beach later that year, the Lamborghini Urus was set to combine Lamborghini performance and styling, with SUV practicality and off-road ability. Over five years after Lamborghini unveiled the Urus Concept, the finished production spec Urus was officially unveiled in December 2017, at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters. The Lamborghini Urus is Lamborghini’s first off-road vehicle since the Lamborghini LM002 and it is also the Italian exotic auto manufacturers first ever SUV. At first, I felt that Lamborghini had made a big mistake by producing an SUV but since the Lamborghini Urus has been with us it has grown on me, and it is everything that Lamborghini promised it to be.
However, despite having Lamborghini grade styling and performance, as well as excellent off-road ability, a factory standard Lamborghini Urus is just not good enough for some people. As a result, the world of aftermarket tuning has got their hands on the big Lambo and we at Enzari have seen our fair share of tuned Lamborghini Urus’ recently. However, if a tuned Lamborghini Urus is a little too over the top for you, Automobili Lamborghini may just have the perfect solution for you. This is it, what you are looking at ladies and gentlemen is a render of what the Lamborghini Urus could look like in high performance Performante guise and even though the images in this article are just renderings, I am liking what I am seeing.
You’re probably asking, since when has Automobili Lamborghini added the Urus Performante to their model line-up? Well, they haven’t but if you are the type of person that likes to keep up to date with all things motoring related, then you will have heard numerous rumours that Automobili Lamborghini are planning to launch a lightweight and high performance version of the big Lambo in the near future. Although details are extremely scarce at the moment, according to Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman, the upcoming, high performance version of the Lamborghini Urus could debut in around two years time and even though Lamborghini have not confirmed the name of the upcoming high performance Urus, is it wrong to assume it will sport the Performante name?
As mentioned earlier, all images featured in this article are renderings and not official images of the actual vehicle, but we think they are pretty much spot on. As a result, you will notice that the featured renderings depict a Lamborghini Urus which features a long list of visual and aerodynamic changes which come in the form of a new, more aggressive front fascia with large air intakes and a subtle front diffuser, what appears to be new LED headlights, beefier wheel arches, aggressive side skirts, Performante Italian flag side stripes with the Performante logo, and a new set of “Y” spoke wheels which have been wrapped in Michelin high performance tires.
Unfortunately, no rear end images have been made available, therefore it is hard to image what changes have been made to the rear of the vehicle but we can see that a Huracan Performante style fixed rear wing is present. Although information is scarce at this time, rumour has it that the upcoming performance version of the Lamborghini Urus could also benefit from a few suspension tweaks and possibly bigger and more powerful brakes. Inside, Lamborghini will probably add a few special touches which could come in the form of new sports seats, lots of carbon fiber interior trim pieces and possibly leather upholstery with Alcantara inserts too.
As expected, the upcoming performance version of the Lamborghini Urus will benefit from a few upgrades under the hood, which ultimately means more power. However, rumour has it that this new model will not be powered by a hybrid powertrain but it will instead utilize a conventional, large displacement internal combustion engine which will most likely be based on the Urus’ current 4.0 liter, turbocharged, V8 engine. In factory standard form, the Lamborghini Urus has a total power output of 641 hp (478 kW) and 850 Nm of torque which is seriously impressive considering the big Lambo is a family SUV.
As mentioned earlier in this article, nothing is official yet and Automobili Lamborghini are yet confirm any of these rumours. As a result, we have no idea how much the upcoming performance oriented Lamborghini Urus will cost when/if it’s launched but we are pretty sure it will cost a fair bit more than a regular Lamborghini Urus.
