Italian Style Motors Into Cumbria

A visit up north to the Lake District is a very nice way to spend your Sunday, stunning scenery, winding roads to enjoy and even more so if the weather is favorable. However anybody picturing a quiet day in the country might have been in for a shock as yesterday saw the 8th Cumbria International Car Show, in which hundred’s of cars from car groups, clubs, car dealerships and individuals descended on a small village just off the M6.

The 8th Cumbria International Car Show has grown steadily over the years and this well organised event appealed to us to get involved and take the chance to meet new people, talk cars and promote Enzari and indeed the Alfa Romeo Giulia which we currently have on test (Veloce model).

An early start and dart up the M6, rain was threatening to ruin our day in Cumbria as some dark clouds loomed overhead and in fact a few minutes of rain on the motorway made us wonder if spending the day in a field was going to be the wisest thing to do! However our fears where soon put to rest as the sun started to force it’s way through to ensure the beautiful Cumbrian countryside looked as picturesque as it should.

Setting up didn’t take too long as our recent ‘Italiana Mornings’ have given the Enzari team plenty practice , all helped by volunteer staff who ensured that exhibitors knew exactly where their pitch was and offered any assistance we might need.  We had hoped to have three cars on our stand, with an Abarth 595 joining but unfortunately currently in for tuning and modifications it wasn’t ready in time, but our every faithful Alfa Romeo Guilietta (the company workhorse!) took up it’s customary position and was joined this weekend by the Giulia Veloce, in Milano Blue with the sun coming out, it really looked good. Yes adding some Italian style to procedures we were ready to go.

Having a walk around the show, it certainly had a good mix of cars, several car dealerships had set up camp from BMW, Audi, Aston Martin, Jaguar Land Rover, and Porsche among others, keen to exhibit their latest models and top up their monthly sales no doubt. However no Italian representation, which was rather disappointing. Car clubs aplenty had made the trip to Cumbria, keen to show off their pristine cars, an eclectic mix of classics, modern and custom, be it BMW, Ford, Vauxhall, Porsche and so on, but again a serious lack of Italian cars, a couple of Ferrari’s and Maserati’s owned by individual’s had joined the show, it was nice to meet some of the owners,  Alan who had a pristine 355 GTS and Richard with his Quattroporte – Ferrari engine of course! A couple of Enzari friends had also made the trip in their Abarths so a quick catch up was on the cards if we had time.

That was the thing, time flew by, the show was a none stop affair from 9.30 until the end of the day, the Enzari team didn’t stop, we had lots of people who came to say hello and find out more about us, our Alfa’s getting plenty of attention too, in fact the Giulia Veloce we have no doubt that we could have probably sold half a dozen during the day had we been able to do so, such was the interest. There was never a minute when we didn’t have people on our stand, the whole show was buzzing, it was a really good turn out. Looking out across the event with all the cars, set in the stunning Cumbria countryside you can understand why people like this show, it was well organised, had plenty going on with various competitions and shows/acts in the centre arena, unfortunately I didn’t get chance to see them as we were so busy but that’s just the way we like it!

It was as they say ‘a good day had by all’ the Cumbria International Motor Show had been a fantastic day, thank you to the organisers and a Massive Thank You to everyone that came to see us and if you couldn’t make it this year, hopefully we will see you in 2020 when we can do it all over again!
