The Spanish riders dominated the second round of the ERC2 European Championship and the first race of the Abarth Rally Cup, the single-brand championship reserved for the Abarth 124 rallies, which consists of 6 of the 8 valid appointments for the continental title. Alberto Monarri (SPA), with Alberto Chamorro (SPA), at the wheel of the Abarth 124 rally of the SMC Junior Motorsport Team, in fact won the ERC2 and R-GT category in the Islas Canarias Rally, ahead of compatriots and team-mates Carlos Garcia Perez (SPA) and Jordi Diaz Negrin (SPA) at the end of a race that saw them protagonists also in the overall classification. The two Spaniards also gained a 16th place overall and established themselves among the 2-wheel drive cars.
In third place were the Poles Dariusz Polonski and Lukasz Sitek, fourth the Italians Andrea Nucita and Michele Ferrara, lingering in the first stage for a technical problem solved by the team at the end of the first day of competition. On the second day Nucita attempted a comeback with good performances in the fastest special stages of the race.
Race characterized by a technical path and by the large presence of the public on the most spectacular sections.

Dariusz Polonski (POL): “After leaving the road that delayed me in the first stage, on the second day I concentrated on trying to learn how to drive this fantastic car with exuberant power. An experience that will be useful for me in the next engagements of the championship “.
Andrea Nucita (ITA): “The start of the race was very difficult and in the second part I think I have demonstrated the competitiveness of this car which in the past two seasons has given me a lot of satisfaction”.
In the 16 special stages Monarri obtained 8 successes, Nucita 7 and Garcia Perez 1.
The next round of the Abarth Rally Cup is the Liepāja Rally in Latvia from 24 to 26 May, where the Abarth 124 rallies will face a dirt track.
