As any real petrolhead will no doubt know, motor Show season has finally arrived and the 2019 Geneva Motor Show has begun and is currently in full swing. Hundreds of the worlds automotive manufacturers are present at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show unveiling their latest models, showcasing their latest concept cars and explaining their latest vehicle technology. One of the hundreds of auto manufacturers that are present at the this years Geneva Motor Show just happens to be Italian based design and engineering firm Italdesign and they have brought one of the best looking concept cars I have ever seen with them too.
This is it, what you are no doubt drooling over ladies and gentlemen is the absolutely stunning Italdesign DaVinci and as the name suggests, this stunning piece of automotive art has been designed, developed and built by Italdesign to mark the 500th anniversary of the legendary artist/inventors death. Before I say anymore regarding this piece of automotive art I do want to make one thing very clear, the Italdesign DaVinci is just a concept car at this stage but that doesn’t mean it can’t/won’t ever become an actual production vehicle. According to Italdesign, if the DaVinci ever had to make production, it would do so without making considerable changes to the already beautiful concept car which is what I want to hear.
On the outside the Italdesign DaVinci features a futuristic, yet very elegant design. As a result, you will notice that the Italdesign DaVinci does feature rather aggressive looking front and rear fascia’s with influence from the Italdesign Zerounoproduction model and the Italdesign GT Zero concept car. As a result, at the front you will notice that the Italdesign DaVincifeatures sleek headlights, and a large radiator grille which is flanked by a set of large air intakes. The futuristic styling continues at the rear of the DaVinci, as a result this gorgeous concept car features a classic GT shape, a truncated tail, a large rear diffuser and twin-circular rear lights. However good the exterior of the Italdesign DaVinci may look, it is the large gullwing doors that will most certainly be the vehicle’s talked about feature.
On the inside, the interior of the Italdesign DaVinci is just as futuristic as it’s exterior. As a result, if you peek inside you will find an interior that features a traditional layout with a minimalist appearance that doesn’t look all that concept in design. From what I can see from the images provided to us, the interior of the Italdesign DaVinci seems to be smothered in Alcantara. In fact, it appears that the steering wheel and other parts of the cabin are trimmed in the material.
Even the switch gear located on the dashboard seem to covered with Alcantara, however they are backlit so vital information is still visible to the vehicle’s occupants. Elsewhere, the Italdesign DaVinci features a large centrally mounted touchscreen display, which most likely features an infotainment system and controls most of the vehicles functions. We can also see a full digital instrument cluster as well as a Ferrari 812 Superfast style passenger display.
According to Italdesign, the DaVinci has been envisioned as an all electric GT car and therefore it features a pair of electric motors that have been positioned at the front and the rear driving all four wheels. It is believed that the DaVinci’s battery pack is housed in the middle of the vehicle, which has enabled Italdesign to keep the vehicle’s center of gravity low and weight evenly distributed from front to rear. Unfortunately Italdesign has not provided any specific details regarding the DaVinci’sbattery packs and overall range, and the Italian based design and engineering firm has also failed to provide any official performance figures (overall power output and torque output, 0-100 km/h sprint times and overall top speed) at this time.
However, Italdesign envisions the gorgeous DaVinci as being somewhat modular and ready to accept electric motors and battery setups from different auto manufacturers. That is not all however, because if good old fashioned petrol power is preferred over an all electric set-up, the Italdesign DaVinci can easily be redesigned and outfitted to accommodate a conventional internal combustion engine. In fact, according to Italdesign the DaVinci concept car featured in this article actually features a massive 4.0 litre V8 engine instead of an all electric set-up. This is good news for the old school petrolhead, because if the gorgeous DaVinci ever had to make production it can feature an internal combustion engine, which is exactly what is needed in a car that looks this good.
As mentioned earlier in this article, the Italdesign DaVinci is just a concept car at this stage, and Italdesign have not mentioned whether or not they have plans to put this gorgeous GT car into production. However, with Italdesign saying that with a few minor tweaks the DaVinci could be ready for production at anytime, there is a possibility that this gorgeous GT car may see the light of day sometime in the future, hopefully the near future that is. As the Italdesign DaVinci is a concept car, no pricing details are available. However, I have to congratulate Italdesign on a job very well done and I think the DaVinci concept is a perfect way to honour the memory of Leonardo DaVinci.
