Following on the news announced last week of FCA’s investment of €5 billion in future development, parts and models for its cars, details have emerged of what could be one of the most important new models.
Set to be Alfa Romeos first plug-in hybrid a new compact SUV will be with us within 18 months. FCA’s Pomigliano plant will produce the model set to be based on the Jeep Compass. The small Alfa Romeo SUV will slot in below the Stelvio and will be the first Alfa Romeo to be offered with a plug-in powertrain as the Italian marque follows FCA’s plans on ‘electric avenue’.
Alfa Romeos current SUV, the Stelvio will see it’s platform used for another SUV for sister company Maserati, as FCA spoke about Maserati introducing a new, unnamed model it will make in Modena. Articles in the Italian press as saying this will be the Alfieri coupe and convertible, also offered as battery electric versions.
