Sergio Marchionne – The Driving Force Behind Fiat Chrysler’s Growth
Sergio Marchionne who had stepped down from his role as CEO of FCA 4 days ago has died in the University of Zurich hospital.
He stepped down from the role with imidiate effect after complications arose following a shoulder operation. Marchionnef was also the chairman of Ferrari and he had planned to step down from his roles next year.
Marchionne was credited with saving FCA from bankruptcy. He joined Fiat in 2004 after the death of Gianni Agnelli. After merging Fiat with Chrysler in 2011, by 2016 he was alble to wipe out the company’s £10 billion debt.
Marchionne was also involved in restructuring the Ferrari F1 team after taking charge in 2014. His restructuring has paid off, as this year going into the Hungarian Grand prix, it looks likely that Marchionne’s restructure is paying off.
His death is a great loss to the car industry and FCA as a whole. Many have been paying tribute to this great man and for good reason. He is a real inspiration.
