GP3 – Ilot wins again in Austria

The Ferrari Driver Academy student took pole and the win in the first of two races at the Red Bull Ring. Giuliano Alesi fights his way up to sixth

Six days on from taking the win at Paul Ricard, Englishman Callum Ilott once again made it to the top step of the podium, to win Race 1 of the third round of the GP3 Series run at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Ilott proved that he was very much on the pace at this track, taking pole at the end of a very closely contested qualifying session. When the lights went out at the start, Ilott held on to the lead and was never headed over the 24 laps.

The second win of the season promoted Ilot into the lead of the series, 2 points ahead of Anthoine Hubert and 15 in front of Giuliano Alesi, who started from 10thon the grid. The 18 year old Frenchman fought his way up the order, eventually taking sixth spot a few corners from the flag. It means Alesi will start from the second row of the grid in Race 2, while Ilott will be eighth.
