Last Sunday was a pretty good day, yes the sun was out, it was warm enough to admit maybe I should have worn shorts, but alas I saved the viewing public from my legs. Aside from the lovely British Summer weather, which we have been enjoying an awful lot of this year, Sunday saw us join some Italian car enthusiasts for our first ‘Enzari Run’.
What had been originally planned to be a video shoot of some Abarth owners with their pocket rockets for the Enzari YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClgfuzCGdrP29m7fzIF5G-g , after being asked by a couple of Alfa Romeo owners could they tag along, we decided to change it into a drive. We have done the Meets in the past and had a good selection of cars turn up, so a Run certainly appealed.
So Sunday morning saw us meet up at Preston Motorpark, a local Fiat and Abarth dealership, after making sure people had a rough idea of the route, a brief health and safety talk and an important camera check, we set off, destination Yorkshire, to be more precise Jct600 Ferrari in Leeds, after all if you are driving Italian cars on a summers day why not finish it off by checking out the latest from Maranello.
Despite losing a GoPro camera off one of the cars (sorry about that guys!) and at one stage losing the main camera man, apparently he lost sight of us?!…a couple of stops enroute, it was a really good drive. A good mix of people, of all ages, just enjoying a drive out on a sunny Sunday, connected by their passion for Italian cars. Everyone seemed to have smiles permanently on their faces as we cruised through some of Yorkshire’s little towns and countryside. Even the children some had brought along were enjoying the cars in convoy, waving at the locals as the Abarths showed off their vocal talent, and others admired the Italian looks of the Alfas. Arriving at the Ferrari dealer in Leeds, the sight of red Ferrari’s (other colours are available) in the sun certainly seemed to confirm the drive as a success.
It never fails to surprise me how things can bring people together from different backgrounds, ages and so on, surely no better excuse than cars. Of course the Enzari members who came on Sunday share a passion for Italian cars, but whatever brand or manufacturer you choose, I can recommend no better way to spend a Sunday than get together with some friends and go for a run…
