Whilst all eyes have been on the unveiling of the Alfa Romeo SauberF1 car for the forthcoming Formula 1 season, another Alfa Romeo has already taken to the track, HMS Racing’s Alfa Romeo Giulietta has had it’s shake down at Donington, for the first time ahead of its British Touring Car Championship this season.
Experienced BTCC winner Rob Austin ran the car in the damp conditions, gaining invaluable data ahead of the first round at Brands Hatch in April. Despite a fuel tank pump issue, overall Rob was pleased with how it had gone “It went really well”, he said “I am really proud of everyone involved, it has been a great day”.
“We believe we’ve built an awesome car, but you’re never quite sure until you hit the track. We still have so much to do of course, but we are hugely excited and even more optimistic than we were before”.
The car is now set for further chassis improvements before resuming testing to the track in two weeks’ time, when the team is hoping for better weather when it runs at Brands Hatch.
HMS Racing team boss Simon Belcher said: “It was a very proud day, but also very nerve-wracking.
“We had put all out efforts into building what we hoped was the best BTCC car we could, but then so does everyone else.
“It has already shown a great deal of potential.”
