Amongst all the rumours of when not if a new hardcore Ferrari 488 will arrive, the hardcore Supercar from the stables of Maranello to carry on the tradition most recently held by the 458 Speciale, it seem’s evidence has surfaced that the 488 Speciale or GTO as it is also rumoured to be named, will definitely be with us later this year, likely to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
Evidence has emerged from the California Air Resources Board, which has confirmed the existence of this more hardcore Ferrari 488. The agency’s emissions test of the company’s 3.9-litre biturbo V8 lists that the document applies to a variety of existing Ferrari models, plus a “488 Special Series Coupe,” according to Autoguide. CARB finalized the paperwork on December 20, 2017, and published it on January 2, 2018.
No further information is provided from CARB, so right now we can only go with the rumour mill that this ‘go faster’ 488 will have in excess of 700bhp, whether it will have any hybrid technology remains to be seen, if it does not. then it is likely to be one of last Ferrari’s without the technology as 18 months ago, President Sergio Marchionne said all of the Italian Supercar maker’s models would have some sort of electric powertrain after 2019.
The 2018 model year certification in the United States means that Ferrari needs to have the model on sale before June.
