Alfa Romeo must have a thing for Spanish football clubs, having sponsored the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real Betis and Valencia, now the Italian carmaker has become the sponsor for RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, after the SPanish football club signed the partnership with the Spanish division of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Alfa Romeo’s parent company.
Espanyol announced the deal on the clubs website ‘The Italian vehicle manufacturer and its prestigious international automobile brand will stay inside and outside the RCDE Stadium. With this agreement, the blue and white squad, manager and coaching staff will enjoy of a fleet of Alfa Romeo vehicles, among which the new Stelvio stands out.’
Espanyol previously agreed a one-year partnership with German automotive firm BMW in 2016, which saw the company’s Barcelona Premium brand become an official supplier of the team but the Spaniards have now dumped the German’s in favour of the Italian brand.
“This agreement represents the union between two brands with an excellent history and prestige in their sectors,” said Antoni Alegre, marketing director at Espanyol.
Luca Parasacco, chief executive of FCA Spain and Portugal, said: “With this sponsorship, RCD Espanyol becomes a strategic ally for us when it comes to sharing future projects in Catalonia.”
