Not content with having just launched the V6 Petrol version of the successful Levante and with rumours that a smaller SUV is currently in the pipeline, Maserati is also set to launch a Ferrari V8 engine derived GTS version next year.
Expected to produce around 570bhp from a 3.8 litre V8, clearly with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo in it’s sights, the long-rumored Levante GTS was spotted testing for the second time on public roads just outside of Maserati HQ.
Although the camouflaged GTS doesn’t give too much away, the V8 version is set to get a revised front fascia with vertical intakes located just in front of the wheels. Two rectangular sections of tape on the hood also suggest some added cooling, and the rear bumper previews an all-new diffuser with an updated exhaust. Other performance add-ons like an updated suspension, and some sporty elements to the interior are also expected when the production version make its debut. Power will be sent to all-four wheels via an eight-speed automatic.
The Levante GTS could make it’s debut at the Detroit Auto Show debut. Beyond the high performance V8 version, a Levante plug-in hybrid could also soon join the luxury car makers line up.
