We knew it was only a matter of time before Italian carmaker Ferrari made a hardcore version of it’s 488GTB to take on the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and Porsche’s GT2 RS. Now it seem’s it’s getting that bit closer for Supercar fans, as pictures of what’s claimed to be, Ferrari’s fastest ever V8-powered Ferrari have surfaced online.
According to Spanish car site, Motor.es who posted the new pictures, the car it caught testing in an undisclosed location is said to be a 488 GTO – an even faster, track-focused version of the 488 GTB.
Ferrari are expected to revive the “GTO” badge for its hardcore 488 mid-engine supercar, and new photos showed what we can expect from this special 488. The supercar shows a sharper front end than the you’ll find on the 488 GTB, with the intakes at the edges of the front end are larger, though the fascia is slightly less gaping than on the 488 GTB. The other photos hide the hardcore Ferrari pretty well.
The track-focused Ferrari 488 GTO is expected to launch next year with more power and less weight than its standard 488 GTB sibling. Its 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 has reportedly been upgraded to deliver between 700 and 720 hp so we can expect a power increase of around 30 – 50-hp, but it remains to be seen if the torque has received a boost over the current 560 lb-ft. As well as a power increase, the Ferrari 488 GTO will also benefit from a substantial weight loss. Reports suggest that Ferrari has shed 75 kg, bringing the weight down to under 1,400 kg.
It’s thought the 488 GTO could be set for a reveal at the Geneva motor show this March.
