According to rumours in Italy, Fiat plans to launch a compact SUV slotted above the 500X. Italian publication carpassion.it has reported that the Italian carmaker is set to launch a bigger SUV, it has created a rendering of what it thinks a Fiat SUV could look like.
The rendered Fiat SUV’s has cues borrowed from the Fiat Tipo. It certainly looks like a proper SUV, although not the most exciting to look at. The Fiat SUV would share a relationship with the second-gen Jeep Compass similar to the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X duo in the B-segment.
The Fiat SUV will utilise FCA’s small-wide 4×4 architecture. The Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X both have a 101.2-inch wheelbase, while the Jeep Compass has a 103.8-inch wheelbase. The latter may apply to the Fiat SUV as well. Engine choices may include 1.4-litre MultiAir2 turbocharged petrol, 1.6-litre MultiJet turbocharged diesel and 2.0-litre MultiJet turbocharged diesel. Transmission choices may include 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic. A 4×4 system option Would likely be available, although Fiat expects the majority of sales to come from its 2WD models.
