Abarth 124 Spider thrashes Mazda and Subaru

If your a Japanese car lover you might want to look away now…the Abarth 124 Spider just gave the Mazda MX-5 and Subaru BRZ (with Performance Package) a bloody nose.

The Abarth 124 Spider competed on C&D’s Lightning Lap and it saw the vehicle completing the course in amazing time of 3:16.9. This is about 3 seconds faster than the MX-5 Club and 4 seconds faster than the Subaru BRZ. Not many Subaru BRZ’s are seen on the road here in the U.K., it’s cousin the Toyota GT-86 is far more common, a car itself used by the Top Gear boys as its ‘reasonably fast car’  it’s fair to say the Subaru version is no slouch.

Beating the Mazda so convincingly is as much as a surprise, since the Mazda is the ‘donor’ car for the Abarth and the Fiat 124 Spider, you’d expect the times to be a little bit closer.

For those who own one or like us, have at least driven the Abarth, it’s not so much a surprise, it’s compact, agile and a real point and go Roadster, driving as if it’s on rails, the Abarth 124 Spider is without doubt one of the best drop tops on the market and beating these two rivals just proof that’s its talents are more than just skin deep…
