Meet the Fiat X1/9 with an Alfa V6

Hillclimb racing is easily one of our favourite types of amateur or grassroots motorsports. The events can be found regularly in the UK and are time trial type races held on paved hillside or mountain roads. It’s a chance for professional and non-professional engineers to turn up with their faster version of a road going car, so competitors typically  show up in some pretty wild creations.

One of these crazy home racecars recently made its way onto YouTube via the ‘Hillclimb Monsters’ channel. Driven by current Touring Car Hillclimb Champion Manuel Dondi, the car is a Fiat X1/9 with racing-inspired aerodynamics and a 320 horsepower V6 engine lifted from an Alfa Romeo Super Tourenwagon racecar.

This X1/9 looks very well setup and the driver behind the wheel seems to be squeezing every last bit of performance out of it. Dondi apparently won the event and that’s hardly surprising after getting a sample of a his and his wild Fiat’s speed in this video. Be sure to check it out in the video below…
