It’s fair to say all petrolheads love a classic for the beautiful to the quirky, a classic car can stir the soul, in some cases unlike the latest supercar model. One person who is passionate about cars and a true Petrol head is Jay Leno. He not only has he a fantastic car collection but knows a thing or two about them as well, so when his friend Afshin Behnia, founder of Petrolicious, brought his Alfa Romeo 1965 Giulia Sprint Speciale to Jay, rest assured it made good TV for the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage.
Behnia’s Giulia SS is a late production run example with the larger 1.6-liter Alfa Romeo twin-cam engine. Some early Sprint Speciales featured all aluminum bodies in order to satisfy FIA homologation regulations, but a full steel body was eventually introduced once the minimum 100-car production run needed for homologation was met. Behnia’s is a steel bodied example, making it less valuable than the aluminum bodied cars, but still a bonafide collectible.
What you have is a beautiful Alfa coupe powered by a 1.6-litre engine that produces a just over 100 horsepower, not much by today’s standards in fact not much for a classic but who cares. This model also a then-rare 5-speed manual gearbox.
Afshin runs this car often, and he uses it in all sorts of ways. From prepping it for road trip and rally duty to simply taking it for canyon blasts, this lightweight Italian looker is clearly up for any and all driving adventures.
