Alfa concept is BAT to the future

In the 1950’s Alfa Romeo teamed up with Bertone to create the BAT – “Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica” – each year between 1953 and 1955 at the Turin Auto show, Bertone and Alfa Romeo presented a BAT concept, the BAT 5, 7 and 9. Stunning concepts that never saw production.

Since the original BAT cars we’ve seen many design concepts to capture the same imagination as those iconic cars. The latest is this Alfa GTL Series Evo concept from designer Matteo Gentile. Looking more Batmobile than BAT, it is low, wide and highly futuristic, it would certainly fit right in with the current crop of hypercars, such as the LaFerrari.

The concept car looks quite long and aerodynamic, with a transparent glass on top making a nice design feature as well as all the aero mods such as the vents that run through the wheel arches.

That this concept will probably never see the light of day is disappointing but that the original BAT concepts continue to inspire and fuel the imagination of today’s designers is testament to those 1950’s icons.
